My eldest son had been hassling me for a while to start archery. Lucky I have a wife who managed to sort out all the details for me, so all I needed to do was turn up with my son. I wasn't planning on having a go, but when I got there I realised how fun it could be. The group was really small and in a lovely isolated spot because you don't want to accidentally shot someone!
I absolutely LOVE it! It was never something I thought about learning but thanks to my son, I now am. It feels amazing to even hit the target, but after a couple of weeks now, I have actually managed to hit the bullseye. It is such a buzz!
Learning something new can;
build confidence in yourself
help you to meet new people
boost your mental wellbeing
help you to provide some self-care, time for you
give you something exciting to look forward to
a way to practice mindfulness, by taking your mind off other things
get you outside and moving
It is great to just try one thing at a time and really give it a go. I find the very first time attending anything so nerve-racking! I worry if I will find the place, who will be there if I will make a fool out of myself. This is your brain going overtime to somehow 'save' you from distress. It isn't really helpful though. Just give it a go! Say YES!
Making changes in my life slowly, allows me to make even more changes. I have now just started swimming laps at night with my friend. I didn't give myself time to think about it when he asked me if I wanted to go.
I JUST SAID YES!
I have now been twice and swum 20 laps both times. I am really proud because I haven't really swum since school and I thought I wouldn't have been able to complete a lap. But guess what? I did! I am smashing it!
Try something new! Ring the local council and see what activities they have on offer or know about. Often they are really inexpensive too.
So, say yes! Find something new to try and you will find your power sparking! Confidence builds and you realise you can do anything you put your mind to!
